Board of Directors

Kim Barker - President 

Kim was elected to the position of President of the Board of Directors of Riverhouse Children’s Center in December 2009. Kim moved to Durango three years ago and her son attends Riverhouse in the pre-school program.  Upon moving to Durango, Kim opened Lovebug Clothing Co, an internet based children’s retailer; she supports all functions of this international business. Prior to moving to Durango Kim and her family resided in Chicago, IL where she was employed for 15 years at JPM Chase. Kim was part of the executive management team, managing the Private Asset Management Division responsible for over $50 billion in assets and 125+ employees.

Kim has always found herself as active member of community life and while in Chicago focused her volunteering time and fundraising for the Susan B. Comen Breast Cancer foundation and the Children’s Memorial Hospital. She served on two boards which provided countless opportunities to benefit the community: The Chicago Ballet and the Junior League of Chicago.

Jessica Obleton - Vice President

Jessica is a native to Durango. She graduated from Fort Lewis College with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and then continued her education with the University of Phoenix earning her Masters of Business Administration. She has always been an active participant with non-profit organizations as well as with the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. 

Jessica owns and operates a graphic design business specializing in invitation and announcement design. Her daughter and son both attend Riverhouse.

Sandy Gilpin - Secretary

Sandy was born and raised in Denver, Colorado.  She graduated from The Colorado College with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and continued her education at The George Washington University, earning a Master's Degree in Secondary Education.  She taught high school mathematics in public schools in Vienna, Virginia and Austin, Texas as well as private schools in Colorado Springs, Colorado and here in Durango.  She also worked for a regional education laboratory, McREL, where she conducted professional development for educators. 

Currently Sandy is the Interim Director and an instructor in the Freshman Math Program at Fort Lewis College.  She has been in the Durango area for 6 years.  Her twin girls attend Riverhouse full time.


Liz Mora - Board Member

Liz Mora, executive director of the Women’s Resource Center of Durango, has brought much-needed stability to the Women’s Resource Center. Mora, who has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Fort Lewis, joined the Women’s Resource Center in 2007 as a Program Assistant, providing support for the center’s resource and referral program; developing and managing the volunteer program; assisting with development and execution of special events and programs, including membership and community outreach; and promoting the WRC’s “Promoting Responsible Fatherhood” Program. In 2008, Mora was appointed the center’s communications and development director and was responsible for the membership program, grant writing, organizing and promoting special events and programs, and fund-raising.

Mora’s career has included positions with the Southwest Conservation Corp and Verint Video Solutions. She also has owned a catering company in Durango and managed a bed-and-breakfast in Costa Rica. Mora and her husband, Roland, have a 5-year-old daughter, Isabel, and a 7-month-old son, Isaak.
